Hamburg interested in unwanted Djourou

Hamburg are reportedly interested in Arsenal’s out of favour defender Johan Djourou. The defender spent the last half of the 2012/13 season on loan at Hannover in Germany and his performances clearly attracted Hamburg’s interest.

Hamburg’s director of sport Oliver Kreuzer is quoted as saying the following:

"“We would loan him, but we would also buy him, depending on what Arsenal prefer. Hannover played well in Europe last season, but Hamburg is Hamburg. HSV is HSV, and we are just a better club.”"

It’s fairly clear to me that if Hamburg are offering Arsenal the choice between loaning Djourou out to them and taking him off of our hands permanently, Arsenal will opt for a permanent transfer. Djourou is way down the pecking order at the Emirates and with his contract still having one year left on it, getting him off the wage bill a year early and even getting a transfer fee for his services will be a job well done by the club.
