Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Auxerre striker Yaya Sanogo on a long-term contract following the expiration of his contract with the French club.

The Frenchman, 20, scored an impressive 11 goals in just 24 games for Auxerre. Sanogo will join up with his new team-mates when he has finished participating at the under-20 World Cup, where he has scored 2 times in 3 matches so far.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said the following after making his first signing of the summer:

"“Sanogo is a good young signing for us. He has shown that he has potential with his recent performances for Auxerre and also for the France Under-20 side. We are looking forward to Yaya joining us and continuing his promising development.”"

Sanogo has yet to be given a squad number by the club, but when he is, it will be confirmed on Arsenal’s official Twitter page – @Arsenal .

This deal has been talked about for a while and has finally been confirmed. His goalscoring statistics are certainly impressive, but we have to remember he’s been playing in the second tier of French football last season with Auxerre, so it is a big step up to the Premier League. I see no reason why he can’t be a success in time though.

Hopefully this is the first of a few signings from the club and hopefully this is just easing us in before bigger names come in *cough* Higuain *cough*.
