Predicted Premier League: 8th

In the top half now, and the Premier League is coming towards the business end. Who is getting closer and closer to the European spots?

Team: Newcastle

Manager: Alan Pardew

Fans have gone through a roller-coaster of emotions with Alan Pardew in charge, after thinking he was the one to bring success back to St James’ Park he signed an EIGHT year contract. Eight. Since then Newcastle’s form has gone up and down but I think he is a decent enough manager, if not spectacular.

Key Player: Fabricio Coloccini

The club captain is one of the most solid players in the Premier League, and he will need to be big this season because at the moment they do not have an out and out striker. Loic Remy has gone back to QPR so unless they sign a big striker they really need to keep clean sheets very regularly. I think they will sign a striker, but the Centre Back will still need to be on top of the game if they are to reach this high up.

Best feature: Fan Base

The support that Newcastle have can drive them through a lot of poor periods, and it really shouldn’t be neglected. For a team that was relegated in recent years they still get a full stadium out and it is intimidating to go there. From personal experience they also travel very well, and a support like that could win games on its own.

Worst Feature: High Expectations

More from EPL News

Because of this fan base, they do also expect a lot. Because of this they want to win more matches they will and any loss against an non top 4 side is a huge issue. Quite simply it can have a negative effect if the club goes on a bit of a downswing. When Newcastle are hot they are hot, but they will also swing down when it’s going wrong.

PIA Writer’s opinions:

BW: “France’s great world cup run may mean that the heavy French influence in this team will bring it to new heights, 6th”
