Move for Zigic would be a huge step backwards
All today I have been reading what must surely be a horrible prank story, but all my fact checking has lead me to believe that this story may well be true. What could it be that would be so horrible? Sanchez out for the season? Ramsey has signed for Chelsea? Probably slightly better than that, but the news is that Wenger’s wonderful solution to the Oliver Giroud situation is to sign Nikola Zigic, the 6ft 8 ex Birmingham striker in one of the strangest moves in the world.
Signing Zigic would be wrong for Arsenal on so many levels, not just the fact he wouldn’t make the team
But for me if we sign Zigic, it won’t just be a bad personnel move, but an awful image move as well.
Firstly, he will not bring in the missing goals that cost Arsenal a shot at the title last season. He is a target man of poor quality that couldn’t keep Birmingham in the EPL, so how would Zigic help Arsenal move to Premier League Champions? He scored 32 goals in 128 appearances for Birmingham, hardly setting the World alight now is he…

Secondly, Arsenal play a smooth passing game built on possession and players constantly moving off of each other. One look at Zigic’s games in England show that he is not that kind of player. Zigic is a poor man’s Andy Carroll, he will terrorize (Championship level) defenders with his physical presence and simply gets in people’s faces. If you ever see him make a swift turn and delicately chip the ball over the keeper in a Champions League semi-final, get up and turn your Xbox off. (Other game consoles are available)
Arsenal have an image to maintain as one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Signing Zigic after being linked with Benzema, Falcao, Balotelli and Cavani will look exceptionally weak. Why would teams fear a side who’s striker solution was to sign a player that has never been seen as overly dangerous? It’s a crazy idea, even Remy would make a better signing because he is proven in the Premier League.
So there’s my reasoning, what do you guys think?
