Borussia Dortmund vs Arsenal: Preview

It seems like it has only been a few days since all of us have been able to digest that great performance of Jack Wilshere. But already we have to prepare ourselves for a tough Champions League game against Dortmund in Germany. There are a lot of things to look forward to in this game, yet there are still a lot of problems with this Arsenal team. The Arsenal defense was clearly very shaky on Saturday, and with Mathieu Debuchy injured, I don’t see Arsenal keeping a clean sheet.  So here is my prediction and the 3 reasons why I think Arsenal is going to come out victorious.

With Mathieu Debuchy injured it will be hard for Arsenal defensively

Prediction: Dortmund 1 – 2 Arsenal

1) Calum Chambers on the right side

It seems like with every game Arsenal’s defense looks more and more disappointing. Silly mistakes, injuries and a lack of depth at the back may be the reason Arsenal perform to our high expectations. The injury to Mathieu Debuchy will mean that Chambers will be starting on the right side of the back four and although Chambers has been very good so far he does make silly mistakes. Look for Dortmund to take advantage of some of those mistakes and get a goal that way.

2) Counting on Wilshere and Ramsey

  • It seems like it is long overdue but it was nice to see all the players we thought would be great a few years ago, start to live up to those expectations. Wilshere’s great second half performance against City was impressive, but now he has to prove that he can keep it up. Ramsey on the other hand, needs to show that he can still play his best game when Wilshere plays the way he played on Saturday. If those two can figure things out together, the future seems positive and it may be too much for Dortmund’s defense and their home crowd.

    3) Wenger vs Jurgen Klopp

When great managers play against each other, we are almost guaranteed a great match. Wenger will make sure his team plays a beautiful game filled with passes and ball movement. Klopp on the other hand will play a physical, counter-attacking game. 2 of the best managers of this era are going head to head again in the Champions League, and I see Wenger making the correct adjustments to win a close game.
