Arsenal vs Chelsea: Gunners Actually the Better Statistical Side

Arsenal vs Chelsea did not go the way that Gunners fans were hoping. A 2-0 defeat in a game chock full of disappointments has already sent many Arsenal fans over the edge calling for Arsene Wenger to be tarred and feathered, Jack Wilshere to be exiled and Arsenal to be relegated.

Exaggerations? Yes. But it’s not far off.

What most people are failing to realize is that, despite the result, Arsenal played incredibly well and dominated the game in just about every statistical category (a small consolation, I know, but it’s important).

Here’s a look at the statistical comparisons from Squawka:

Obviously we should all still be disappointed at the result (maybe even moreso considering how well we did play), but compared to last year’s 6-0 drubbing, we should be thrilled that we were able to compete with a top team (the top team) and only get beat on two quick jabs that really could not have been helped.

This is a different Gunners squad than last year, a better squad. We outplayed Manchester City and were right there with Chelsea. With Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Debuchy still out, there is plenty of room for optimism. You’d be an absolute fool to look at this result and say “Arsenal are done, they can’t compete.”

Because we can and we will compete.

Who saw Arsene Wenger shoving Jose Mourinho? This defeat rubbed the Professor the wrong way and he is going to ensure that this sort of frustration is not felt again. Say what you want about Wenger (I’ll probably be right there with you) but he loves this team and will do everything in his power to ensure our success.
