Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Mesut Ozil Link to Manchester City Laughable

facebooktwitterreddit

Mesut Ozil is a highly-polarizing figure at Arsenal, but his dedication to the club and Arsene Wenger’s dedication to him are well-documented. It seems borderline farcical that Manuel Pelligrini has ordered Manchester City to steal Ozil away, but that’s the story.

City have a penchant for heisting Arsenal players (Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna), so that alone would be enough to dismiss this silly rumor. The outcry and backlash towards Wenger if such a move were to happen would be worse than ever before. Fans would downright riot and barring some miraculous signing to replace Ozil, it would be irreperable.

Perhaps the biggest fact that makes this entire situation laughable is the report that emerged not so long ago that Arsene Wenger passed up a chance to sell Mesut Ozil to Bayern Munich and instead replace him with Captain Fantastic, Cesc Fabregas.

The fact that Wenger did this in the first place is mildly infuriating because there is not an Arsenal fan on the face of the earth who wouldn’t have done anything to bring Fabregas back to the Emirates.

So if Wenger were to sell Ozil to a rival, especially City, it would look as if we passed on Fabregas for absolutely no reason. Wenger is already on shaky footing, but this would begin an earthquake.

There is committment on both sides for Mesut Ozil. He’s shown what he can do when played properly and no 32 million pound bid from a direct rival will snatch him away.

Even with City wanting to unload Yaya Toure, Ozil is not going to join up with the defending champions. Wenger has enough decency to ensure that this wouldn’t happen. Ever.
