Arsenal Injury News: It’s Time to Pull the Plug on Abou Diaby

facebooktwitterreddit

You know it’s bad when people fail to realize that you’re hurt (or still hurt, whatever). Abou Diaby is cursed with the most frail body in the history of sports.

Just when it seemed like he was making his return at long long long long long last, he disappeared off the radar again. Given the fact that he’s been gone for so long, I don’t think I’m alone in saying that I didn’t really notice.

But, you guessed it, he’s hurt again.

During his recovery, Diaby suffered a calf injury and the setback has put him out indefinitely.

Arsene Wenger had this to say to the Arsenal team site of his unfortunate countryman:

"“He is not in the squad because he has a small calf problem. He has little injuries at the moment, never anything bad, but he has been out for such a long time that when he plays it takes him a long time to recover,“It’s much worse for Abou because Theo has not gone through so many injuries. You wonder where Abou gets the strength back to come back and work harder and harder and harder.”“When you come in in the morning he’s already in the gym to prepare. He has done extremely well – you cannot fault his attitude at all. You can only admire him for that. He is always in my mind. His first injury at Sunderland in the last minute – that was a huge blow in his career,”"

The fact of the matter is that Abou Diaby will probably never play for Arsenal, and if he does, it will only lead to frustration when he’s hurt again. Not only that, but I have a sickening suspicion that Wenger didn’t sign a defensive midfielder because he placed some bizarre hope in Diaby getting healthy and taking the role (despite it not even being his primary position).

It’s time to move on from Diaby. It really is unfortunate. As much as I appear to be railing on him, it’s not his fault if he constantly gets hurt. But it has gotten to the point where Arsenal are better off without him, wouldn’t you agree?
