The FA Community Shield’s importance varies depending on who you ask, but you can be sure that both managers did all they could to take this silverware of questionable value home to their respective stadiums. Not even Jose Mourinho used the “it is only a friendly” excuse, so you know it meant something.

Arsenal was obviously without their Chilean mastermind, Alexis Sanchez, so it left Arsene Wenger to do some shuffling to compensate for the missing piece. That shuffling allowed for us to get a good impression of not only what life would be like without Alexis, but what life is like for a lot of guys when played out of their natural position.

Mesut Ozil was forced to play the majority of the game out on the left of the pitch opposite Alex Oxlade-Chamblerain and Arsenal had three guys, Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin and Aaron Ramsey, playing behind the attacking three, leaving the Gunners with a 4-3-3 formation. It was far from the ordinary but it is important to remember that that is not what Arsenal will be suiting up with all year long.

Eden Hazard did have an excellent chance to equalize but in perhaps the most glorious display since Arsenal’s team goal against Norwich City, the Belgian ‘superman’ absolutely scoffed the effort so hard that even Danny Welbeck was wondering how he did it.

Even though it was only one game, it was a big game against a big opponent and there was a lot to take away from it. Here are ten things we learned from Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Chelsea.
