Arsenal’s ‘silent’ owner Stan Kroenke has been all over the media and he is not making a lot of friends in the process. However, there is one thing he is good for.

If you have been anywhere near a google search engine recently, you have probably heard that Arsenal’s illustrious majority owner and toupee aficionado Stan Kroenke has been busy spending money. Not on defensive midfielders or striking reinforcements, but on ranches that are worth more than the GDP of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Nice place.

The ranch that ‘Silent Stan’ bought is reportedly worth $750m, or roughly the equivalent of 20 Memphis Depays. That’s a lot of money and it really brings into perspective how much Kroenke is making on his sports enterprises, also known as KSE.

Kroenke is an entrepreneur by trade, and to his credit, he is a damn good one. The man could give a hoot less about his various sports teams (Rams, Avalanche, Arsenal) but if you need to make a buck, just call Stan. The American capitalist is worth more than the country of Kosovo and he is not showing any signs of stopping.

It is not that out of the ordinary to see such rich businessmen owning sports franchises. However, it is a bit out of the ordinary to have one who is so clearly in it for the money and not the least bit interested in the team’s actual success.

In fact, it has gotten so bad, that one financial journalist has even deduced that Stan Kroenke has been siphoning money from Arsenal to help pay for his new Texas ranch. 101 Great Goals strings the report together, as it was originally revealed through twitter.

The reports are rather disturbing and shed a ton of light on why Arsenal have been so quiet in the transfer markets of late. However, many have also pointed out that it can all be explained in Arsenal’s last two signings before Kroenke appointed Ivan Gazidis to oversee the club. Those two signings were Andrei Arshavin and Samir Nasri. Two signings that, if we are being honest, are a bit risky and unlike what we see Wenger purchasing now.

Nasri was part of the group that was sold to pay off the Emirates, and he was very clear that Wenger had promised that he would not sell him. However, contrary to popular belief, Wenger does not have the final say on everything. Which brings me to my point.

If Stan Kroenke has done nothing else for this club, at least he has shown us who the true villain is. Granted, the #WengerOut army will still be clamoring for Wenger’s removal, but when you get down to it, Arsenal’s virtual silence as far as spending money comes down to “Silent Stan”.

That leaves Wenger to reinvest the money he doesn’t have in the form of faith in his own players. It’s not easy and it will leave a lot of fans frothing with anger towards the face that has to do the covering, but one fact holds true. Arsene Wenger loves this club and what we have seen him investing in is the club’s future. All of these wonderkids are being bought to ensure that these kinds of situations do not arise again.

By securing the club’s future with such illustrious talents, he can start to build a little bit of confidence in knowing that the club he loves will be able to carry on without him and not end up like Manchester United.

So, for nothing else, thank you, Stan, for showing us who the actual bad guy is.
