Arsenal have officially signed Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach.

It’s time to rejoice. Arsenal have officially made their first purchase of the Summer, bringing in Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach. It has been a signing that has been expected for the past week, but Arsenal, with their notorious frailties in the transfer market, can never be trusted to make a deal done until it is official.

Xhaka, however, can now be celebrated and welcomed as a Gooner, and it will be fascinating to see where Arsene Wenger plans to fit him in the midfield puzzle. Arsenal have an excellent squad, with great numbers in midfield, but adding Xhaka to the mix only strengthens an area of great importance.

While the fee has not been officially released, it is reported to be in the £25-30 million range, which is a substantial figure and a statement to the rest of the league. In announcing the signing, Xhaka spoke to media about moving to the North London club, having this to say to the fans:

"“I’m very proud to be joining Arsenal. I cannot wait to move to London, represent this special club and play in the Premier League. I will give everything to help Arsenal win trophies and make the fans happy.”"

The details of the contract have also not been released, but it is deemed to be a long term deal for the 23 year old. This is a fantastic start to the Summer transfer window for Arsenal, and hopefully it will be the start of many more signings to come.
