Arsenal have been linked with Manchester United center half Daley Blind, though it is thought that Jose Mourinho will block any inquiry made by the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho do not get on. That much is certain, and their fractious relationship has spilled into the transfer market.

While with Chelsea, Mourinho refuted Arsenal’s advances on multiple occasions, perhaps most famously when Arsenal pursued then Chelsea forward Demba Ba. Ba wasn’t playing regularly at Chelsea, was unhappy at the club and Arsenal were in need of a striker.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Ba wanted to leave and Arsenal were happy to welcome him in. It all seemed like a move waiting to happen, until Mourinho stepped in and barred any possible move from going through.

Mourinho again tried to perform his tricks once again when Arsenal tried to sign Petr Cech last Summer. Mourinho famously didn’t want to let Cech leave to a direct rival, but owner Roman Abramovich felt that Cech’s service to the club should be rewarded by allowing to chose where his next club was. Cech went on to chose the Emirates and it ultimately saw Mourinho and Abramovich’s relationship fall apart.

Now, Mourinho is set to play his games once again by blocking Arsenal’s move for Daley Blind. There have been reports that Mourinho is not enamored by Blind’s ability in the center of defense, mainly due to his slight stature.

It is a fair comment, but if Mourinho wants to block any advances, then Arsenal should be very happy to let him.

Blind is not the player that Arsenal need.

Arsenal need a world class leader at center half, someone to partner with Laurent Koscielny to create a defensive wall that hasn’t been seen in North London for far too long.

He is not that commanding, dominating center half, and all he would provide is depth, and depth is exactly what Arsenal do not need. Wenger has assembled a deep squad, if a little short in quality in certain areas, and more numbers does not serve a purpose this Summer.

Blind would be a truly terrible signing for the Gunners, and Mourinho could well become the savior, much more than the devil he has been in the past, this Summer.
