Arsenal’s list of possible Alexis replacements continues to expand, but some guys on this list are needed with or without Alexis leaving. Ivan Perisic is one such case.

Arsenal are starting to have some of their summer transfer needs come to the light. Last summer they signed three guys to address their three major issues – defense, striker and midfield. All of the signings are on the right path to do exactly what they were intended to.

This summer, we are looking at three more needs – left back, wings, and, yet again, midfield. There are numerous left backs that make an easy solution to a growing problem. There are numerous midfielders that can help Granit Xhaka bring stability to a shaky Gunner’s spine.

But as far as wingers that can bring the hurt, there aren’t many. None can cover for an Alexis exit. Let’s get that out of the way. But plenty can compliment Alexis and bring something to the team, attacking-wise, that maybe they didn’t have before.

Ivan Perisic is one such guy. The Inter Milan product actually has a lot of unique abilities that make him especially pertinent to what the Gunners need, but let’s cover the basics first.

He is a proven winger. A solid all around attacker that is going to balance out a lopsided attack that goes through Alexis Sanchez and no one else. Alex Iwobi and Theo Walcott, while at two different ends of the spectrum, don’t bring what is needed to the table. Not consistently, at least. Iwobi needs more time, and Perisic can spot him a year or two, which is another draw.

Then there is the aerial ability, which is what sets him apart and makes him such a draw for Arsenal. A pacey winger (well, pacey enough) that wins over two aerial duels per match? That is something unique.

And if there is one thing the Gunners should always be on the lookout for, it is an injection of height. Especially at positions that aren’t normally known for it.

Perisic is an aerial master, which makes me fantasize about Alexis driving into the box, sending in a cross and finding a flying Perisic forehead for a goal. It’s be amazing. People would go crazy. There’d be dancing in the streets.

Perisic is also a plausible move. He has just changed agents and surely a new agent with a client like Perisic is going to be on his game trying to get him whatever he wants.

Arsenal should absolutely want Perisic if they don’t already. Between what we already know he brings to the unique traits, there is so much to be found in this move.
