Arsenal will likely be on the hunt for some sort of spark this summer transfer window and as unlikely as it seems, Kelechi Iheanacho isn’t the craziest idea.

Alex Iwobi is locked in a serious bromance with Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho. But they are only able to live out that bromance when international duty calls because the wall between Arsenal and Manchester City is pretty high.

And apparently, Iwobi isn’t ruling out the idea of bringing down that wall and convincing the Gunners to go after the 20 year old Nigerian.

On the surface, it sounds like crazy talk. Iheanacho has been superb with City and he is clearly a striker destined for great things. But when you dig below that, there is some hope to be found.

For starters, we were fairly realistically linked to Sergio Aguero, and that seemed impossible. Pep Guardiola is an odd manager with fleeting fancies, and when someone has fallen out with him, they disappear. Just ask Zlatan.

While Iheanacho has denied any sort of falling out over his lack of playing time, that is what a good, obedient player is supposed to say. It would not be surprising at all for it to come out later that there was, in fact a falling out.

Aguero had one, after all.

Not only that, but with Guardiola landing Gabriel Jesus, the future seems like it may be more in his court than that of Iheanacho. There is certainly room for two at the club, but Iheanacho is not one to play second fiddle and again, Guardiola is a funky dude sometimes. The fact that Gabriel is “his” man and Iheanacho isn’t will factor into the decision.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Even if it isn’t this summer, if Iheanacho’s minutes don’t improve, there will be no point to hanging around. He hasn’t started a game (in any competition) since Gabriel came to town and he hasn’t played the full 90 since December 6th.

In fact, in all of 2017 (Gabriel arrived January 19th) he has only made six appearances for a grand total of 104 minutes. He also has not played more than 14 minutes since the Brazilian’s transfer was completed. In addition, he went the entirety of February without playing a game.

Gabriel was injured in mid-February, yet somehow even his absence has not sparked more time for Iheanacho, who has only played in 31 minutes throughout the month of March.

With Raheem Sterling now featuring at times as a second striker, the prospects are looking even dimmer.

For as hard as I am on Iwobi and as much as I grow tired of seeing him play every single day, if he convinces Kelechi Iheanacho to come to Arsenal, based on the faith that Iwobi himself has been shown, then hey, it was all worth it.
