Arsene Wenger has stated that his future is not ‘sorted completely’. For the good of Arsenal football club, he now needs to be uncharacteristically decisive.

Uncertainty and doubt are never positive for a football club. Goals, ambitions, single-mindedness is what is needed. A common aim to which everyone can work towards. Arsenal are lacking that. Badly.

Primarily, it is Arsene Wenger’s future that has been the prevailing question hanging over the club. And on a Thursday morning press conference before Manchester City’s trip to the Emirates, Wenger revealed that his future is not yet ‘sorted completely:

More from Pain in the Arsenal

"“I am very clear in my mind. Do I stay two more years? My commitment will be the same. It does not influence my attitude. I’ve always been clear in my mind. It’s a subject that is not sorted completely. The results aren’t going as we want. The priority is on the pitch. The big professional is to perform on the football pitch.”"

That is a major concern. Whether you are a ‘Wenger In’ or ‘Wenger Out’ proponent, what cannot be doubted is that clarity and direction is needed.  A decision must be made so that Arsenal can move forward and work towards rescuing their season. That is a sentiment that is shared by Nacho Monreal, who, when asked about the state of the squad and the prospects of the side moving forward, could not help but reveal the pressures and the difficulties that uncertainty brings:

"“But today these are the circumstances: the coach finishes his contract and has not yet communicated whether he continues or not, then there are two important players like Alexis and Mesut who finish their contracts next season and they are waiting for the coach to follow. It is a situation of uncertainty, and that does not help.”"

Monreal is spot on in his assessment and it ultimately comes down to Wenger’s unwillingness to be decisive. It has certainly been an issue that has hindered the progress of the club in the past, especially in the transfer window, and now again, Wenger’s dithering is hindering, not helping.

It may well be an uncharacteristic demand to ask Wenger to be decisive. But it is necessary if Arsenal are to find success during the remainder of the year and in the future. As Wenger himself declares, ‘results aren’t going as we [sic] want’. While improvements on the pitch are needed, clarity off of it, especially from Wenger, is a trait that the club sorely misses.
