Arsenal: Jeff Reine-Adelaide Injury Hopefully Mere Coincidence

Arsenal youngster Jeff Reine-Adelaide is out for the rest of the season and all we can do now is hope that he isn’t the next one.

Arsenal has a lot of hope in young midfielder Jeff Reine-Adelaide. The Frenchman is the crown jewel of the Gunner’s youth set up, as well as being one of the few young prospects to make his way dangerously close to first team contention.

This year, Reine-Adelaide made six appearances wit the first team. Definitely some useful growing experiences.

Now, however, the Frenchman’s season is over, as he has gone down with an injury and will spend the rest of the year on the sidelines, hoping to be rested and recovered for the summer, when he will be right in the thick of trying to make a case for more inclusion.

I’m not one for jinxing, but I can’t help but notice a certain – and dreadfully horrific – ‘coincidence’ about Reine-Adelaide’s injury, particularly in terms of the timing of it.

For starters, it comes right on the back of Jack Wilshere being ruled out with another stress fracture. Of course, Wilshere was another midfielder, like Reine-Adelaide, who had all the potential in the world but lost it through injury.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Which makes me think back to when Jack Wilshere was starting to near first team inclusion in his late teen years. It was right about that time that Abou Diaby started to be pushed out of the club due to incessant injuries.

Abou Diaby, of course, another midfielder, like Reine-Adelaide and Wilshere, who had all the potential in the world but lost it through injury.

There are certain curses at Arsenal that are rather alive. Mostly the No. 9 shirt. But there is also the potential for a serious curse about immensely talented midfielders losing out to cruel and unrelenting injuries.

It started with Abou Diaby, who is actually very similar to Reine-Adelaide in terms of skill. It was then handed to Jack Wilshere. Wilshere is now likely being pushed out of the door, as his latest injury will cause him to miss the start of next year.

Surely Wilshere didn’t hand this curse off to Reine-Adelaide.

Again, I’m sitting over here trying not to psych myself out, although I guess I already failed since I wrote this morose article in the first place. All we can do is hope that the injury is not serious, heals quickly, and is not some sort of voodoo magic.
