Arsenal supporters have more than enough reason to be antsy about the future of Alexis Sanchez, but the most nightmarish of them all won’t happen.

There was a while there, a couple years, in fact, where every Arsenal fan favorite (also known as every Gunner that was any good and had a bright future) was sold off to immediate rivals. We still get reminded of it when Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy suit of for Manchester City and when Cesc Fabregas wears blue.

So needless to say, when Alexis Sanchez delivered his line about wanting to stay at a team in London that was winning things, supporter’s first inclination was to fear the worst: Chelsea.

He had also been heavily tied to Manchester City and given his man-love with Pep Guardiola, it was impossible to rule out. Especially with how much City had raided us in the past.

As you can see, we supporters can be forgiven for assuming the worst. Seeing as how the worst had happened in the past, it’s only natural to expect it.

However, Arsene Wenger is here to banish that worst case scenario into oblivion and then give us a little pick-me-up in terms of other potentially bad scenarios as well. Take it away, Le Prof:

More from Pain in the Arsenal

"I don’t think you would sell him to any Premier League club, that is for sure. But as I have said, I think he will stay and sign a contract."

Yes, that’s right, he said ‘that is for sure.’ Meaning that there is no turning back now. There is absolutely no possible way that we will see Chelsea scupper in this summer and filch our Chilean away from us.

If anything, he would go abroad, but even then, Wenger is confident that he can keep hold of Alexis and as I have said many times before, all signs indicate that he is happy. It’s just a matter of showing more fight and more ambition, which shouldn’t be all that hard for a top-tier club like Arsenal.

Still, all of these fears can really be put to bed over the summer when Alexis finally inks a new deal, embeds himself within the club and becomes a legend, all in one fell swoop. And then he will lead us to the title that he came here for and we will all live happily ever after.
