Arsenal’s contract saga with Alexis Sanchez is already deadening in its volume, but landing Thomas Lemar can make the whole thing go silent.

It gets really bothersome having to read the endless speculation about Alexis Sanchez. Now apparently he has checked into a Paris hotel because he is in talks to jump ship from Arsenal and land with PSG. Frankly, with how good the team is looking in preseason, I have started to tune it out a bit.

Especially with the landing of Alexandre Lacazette and the reemergence of Alex Iwobi. But there is no denying that Alexis Sanchez is the best player on the team and the most capable of changing the flow of momentum with a single move.

At the start of the summer, Alexis’s transfer saga was pretty much all that mattered. It was the loudest noise in the crowd and the one everyone wanted the scoop on. That deadened a bit with Lacazette’s arrival, as people had more to look forward to than they had to dread.

Mainly because it was clear that even without the Champions League, Arsenal can still attract the best. Which meant that should Alexis decide to leave, the club will go on, believe it or not. He may be the battery pack attached to the club, but there are plenty of other sources of power.

There is still a healthy bit of murmuring surrounding the saga however, even in spite of the promising preseason thus far and the only thing that will really quiet it altogether is a signing that would indisputably help the the team move on without the Chilean. So, more specifically, a creative-minded attacker to slot in next to Mesut Ozil like Alexis did.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Of course you all know who I am alluding too. It can only be Thomas Lemar. Since Arsenal nation is so sold on the Frenchman and so convinced that he will be the greatest thing since Alexis himself arrived, following through on that wave of optimism would make Alexis’s transfer saga passable news. It wouldn’t feel as important. It wouldn’t be as detrimental.

Sure, we’d still hate to see him go to Manchester City, but if the team has the means to cope without him and they are willing to invest in the quality required to cover for him, then what is there to fear?

Maybe I lashed out at the board when they said that the club is bigger than Alexis because at the time, Alexis felt like our only hope. But seeing Wenger work his magic this transfer window, I’m starting to see the other side.

I want few things more than I want to see Alexis stay. But if he has to leave, I won’t lose sleep over it. That is, assuming we have Lemar.
