Arsenal are reportedly only going to be able to land Malcom if they then loan him back to Bordeaux. So what’s the hold up? It’s a brilliant deal.

When Malcom’s link to Arsenal first popped up, I couldn’t wait to see him in the red and white. I still can’t. But there was that lingering requirement from Bordeaux that he would have to be loaned back for the rest of the year. It was a bummer, to say the least.

In its wake arose the links to Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with numerous sources saying the Gunners won’t be able to secure all three.

But does that included landing the two senior players and also acquiring Malcom, but loaning him back?

The more the loan-back requirement festers in my mind, the more I’m starting to love the idea, but it didn’t really set in until the Reiss Nelson rumors started to emerge. With Theo Walcott‘s departure, an immediate signing isn’t necessarily required. The only person that absolutely must be replaced is Alexis Sanchez. He was a big time presence.

Walcott wasn’t. He was a bonus, if you get my drift. Reiss Nelson can fill that role of a bonus. In return, that would ideally ward off any lingering exit rumors for Nelson as he competes for a first-team spot with the knowledge that he only has four or five months to prove himself before Malcom joins in July.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Everybody wins. Arsenal land top-tier replacements for Alexis, which is the one major requirement. They land them partially thanks to the money that is coming over from Alexis and Walcott. They secure Malcom for the future, a player that is clearly highly thought of, particularly by Sven Mislintat.

Bordeaux get their way so the Gunners don’t have to overspend on the Brazilian to get him in the here and now, but the North Londoners still secure his services.

Meanwhile, Reiss Nelson is given an opportunity he would not find at PSG or Real Madrid, at least not for several years. But he is given the opportunity in a different fashion than Alex Iwobi‘s original opportunity. It isn’t a “just have at it and we will see where it goes” kind of thing. It’s a “you have a finite amount of time to prove you are ready, if you can’t prove it in that time, we will reassess with new options.

Internal competition is always tragically lackin with the Gunners, so this is the perfect chance to do things right with their No. 1 young talent.
