Mikel Arteta has been heavily rumored as the incumbent to Arsene Wenger as the next Arsenal manager, but this here’s why that would be bad news.

Ever since the news of Arsene Wenger’s departure was released by Arsenal, the tabloids have been working overtime to link almost everyone that can be linked anyhow with the managerial vacancy at Emirates. From the likes of Tuchel, Low, Ancelotti, Allegri to even the most incredible choices like Vieira, Rodgers and now Arteta who is barely a couple of years old in the coaches domain.

Mikel Arteta who is currently the co-assistant coach alongside two others in the role, is now, according to Sky Sports, being lined up by our very own CEO Ivan Gazidis for the role that Arsene Wenger has performed of the last 22 years.

Wenger’s work while may not be universally appreciated and lauded, especially during the latter stages. But it was one which took dedication, commitment and discipline of the highest level from the Frenchman. To expect the same level from our former captain who is just two years old as a coach is absurdity of the highest level.

While its understandable that the instant feel good factor that the appointment of Mikel Arteta will bring to the club and the level of optimism among the fans after seeing Guardiola’s assistant plying the skills and knowledge learned under him in Wenger’s seat, the utter lack of experience at dealing with the pressures of single-handedly managing a top flight club cannot be ignored.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

What Arsenal are in dire need of now is a brilliant tactician, best in his class, who has also expertly previously dealt with the rigors of top flight football, and the pressures of inexplicable blips or poor form that this team more often than not faces. Arsenal right now need a man capable of mercilessly dealing with the weaknesses in the squad and identifying the right personnel to replace those.

To compete on the European World stage and dealing with the best in the business is completely impossible for someone as inexperienced as Mikel Arteta. Surely he is a name that the board is passing around and judging with pros and cons, but to actually put a stamp on it would be utterly childish.

The squad is currently, and has been for many years, crying out for a manager who will ruthlessly grind out successful tactics to his players instead of relying on players chemistry and talents to make the most out of situations on the pitch.

It’s certain to say that this will not be Mikel Arteta’s cup of tea right now. Having said that, a few years down the line when a huge succession like this has stabilized, it would be heart warming and beneficial for the club to pass on the baton to former players like Mikel Arteta or Patrick Vierira or even Thierry Henry, who will rightly identify with the values of the club and then be sitting in the dugout and passing on Wenger’s tutelage to that crop of players.
