Arsenal: Let’s keep exacerbating the Mesut Ozil situation, why don’t we?

Arsenal have a problem with Mesut Ozi, but it’s so far from the end of the world. If only the media would stop perpetuating it like it is.

Arsenal have a lot of problems that need tackling in the summer months, but it’s important to remember that none of them are irreparable. None of the problems that we currently have are problems that derail a club for years.

Not even Mesut Ozil. Ozil is not the first superstar to not jive with a new manager, or a new system, or anything. It happens all the time, and it rarely means that both sides of the spectrum, Ozil and the club in this case, aren’t perfectly fine afterwards, or can’t grow up afterwards.

But in the meantime, the news media will be perpetuating this feud for as long as they possibly can, in as many ways as they can, sometimes pretty creatively, like the latest little nudge by SkySports.

The headline was “Serge Gnabry says Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil is the best player he has played with.” And maybe I’m making too much out of this, but in what other world would that kind of headline be the top search result about a club like ours?

More from Pain in the Arsenal

In a world where Mesut Ozil is currently at odds with the club, and where there is a need to exacerbate this ongoing feud to be bigger than it actually is.

Again, am I making too much out of this? Maybe. But I’m so tired of every whisper of Mesut Ozil turning into picking a side. The social media sphere around this is already bad enough with “Retweet for Ozil, like for Emery” tweets making the rounds. Now, just because a former team mate says that Ozil is talented, we have to make it front page news.

We all know that Ozil is talented. We all know that he is one of the best in the world at what he does, but we also know that just because you are a really good truck driver doesn’t mean that you should go piloting a Boeing 747. Please don’t.

Whatever happens with Ozil, we’re all going to be okay. Emery isn’t an idiot, he isn’t petty. Even if Ozil has to stay for another year, which is incredibly unlikely given the current trajectory, there will be compromise, there will be opportunity and neither Ozil nor Arsenal are going to be damaged goods because of “that one season they didn’t get along.”

Maybe I’m just being naive. Sky Sports owes nothing to the Gunners, so why wouldn’t they go talking about the Ozil story as much as they possibly could? I just know that this kind of bland quote would never amount to anything if it weren’t for the situation at hand.
