Well, he was, and after seeing him showcase against Lyon, I can see what all the hubbub is about this kid. At just 22 years of age, he looked impenetrable, as he stoned shots from one of the hottest strikers in the world of football, Alexandre Lacazette. He even stopped him in a one-on-one situation that was eventually called offside anyway.
Martinez may be the future of Arsenal goalkeeping. If Petr Cech is truly aiming for seven more years of play, that puts Ospina and Szczesny largely out of contention for some time. But Emiliano Martinez will be coming into his best years as Cech is fading out of his.
Martinez is a physically strong goal keeper who displayed that strength against some powerful shots from the French opposition.
