Francis Coquelin has been an absolute revelation to Arsenal and to the entire league. From a loan at Charlton Athletic to the best defensive midfielder in the league in half a season. No one times slide tackles better than Francis Coquelin. His interceptions per game are over 4 and his tenacity is to die for. It’s also to break a nose for, maybe even twice. After the first incident that found Coquelin going about the pitch with gauze in his nose after an ill-headed ball, Coquelin’s nose found the forehead of Olivier Giroud.
Let me tell you something about the forehead of Olivier Giroud – it’s powerful.
Whether or not he actually broke his nose twice, the fact of the matter is that he stayed in the game and played like he wasn’t wandering about with a twice-deviated septum. That’s pretty impressive.
The mask that followed reminded us that Coquelin is kind of like a superhero.
