3. What Was Missing From the Attack?

I think that our crisp, one-touch passing around the opposition penalty area can be deadly. I truly believe that. With the likes of Mesut Özil, Cazorla, Ramsey, Olivier Giroud, and Alexis, I think that out intricacy can provide huge chance-creating benefits.

But still, when that failed, it was quite obvious that something extra was needed.

I disagree with the notion that we desperately need a new player in order to bolster our attack because I think that parts of our solution were right there on the pitch in the forms of Bellerin and Monreal. Granted, Monreal did do a good job of getting forward and combining with the attack, so I want to focus this slide more on Bellerin.

The obvious disadvantage of playing Ramsey on the right is that he isn’t an out-and-out right winger, but it worked for a long spell last season. Why? Because the wide threat foregone by the selection of Ramsey was instead presented by Hector Bellerin.

The pacy Spaniard proved that he could create havoc on the right side with his overlapping runs, and I think that those are crucial to the attack. We always look more dangerous when Monreal and Bellerin are part of the attack.

Against Liverpool, it seemed that Bellerin was somewhat hesitant to constantly come forward because of the counter-attacking threat posed by Benteke and Coutinho, and that came at a price.

Without mentioning potential substitutes, the best way to remedy the dearth of wide threat is to push the fullbacks as far up the field as we can.
