It really was disheartening to see how inadequate Arsenal’s defense was, particularly on the wings, where Arsenal usually have the power to shut down any wide attacks. Granted, it may have been a situation of rust. Plus, all of the squad rotation players have not been a big part of this momentum wave.
Luckily for us, with the return of Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal, those flanks will be closed up yet again.
Hector Bellerin is special. He has been absolutely unbelievable. As a 20 year old, he has unseated Mathieu Debuchy and made him look grossly inadequate. Fear not, for Hector Bellerin will be back in action for Arsenal against Swansea.
The same goes for Nacho Monreal. The left back turned center back turned left back is really starting to solidify himself as a beast. That beast was missing against Sheffield. While Kieran Gibbs was not the worst of the bunch, he is, much like Debuchy, being exposed for how inadequate he is when compared to the man that took his place.
Next up, we look at Arsenal’s likely decision to infuse a bit of athleticism into the center of the defense.
