Of all the tandems on Arsenal that are starting to solidify themselves, this may be one of the more shocking. Santi Cazorla has more passes completed and more possession won in the defensive third than anyone in the Premier League. That never stops being surprising. The little Spaniard as an imposing defensive mid? That’s crazy talk.
But it’s true.
Not to continuously beat a dead horse, but Francis Coquelin was painfully missed against Sheffield too, mainly because of his passion. Arsenal lacked a lot of his token fire. You can bet that no one is going to be more prepared and more fired up for this Swansea match-up than Coq.
Combined, the two shore up Arsenal’s defensive corps. I’m feeling better already just thinking about it.
Now that the question of who starts at defensive mid is answered, we have to accept that the hole that was created will therefore have to be answered on the wings. So let’s get there.
