Arsenal vs Swansea: 5 Things We Learned
By Josh Sippie
5. This defense is not foolproof
I have not been alone in singing the praises of this defense. It is statistically the best defense in the league with just eight goals given up. I still firmly believe that all three of our centerbacks are world class and that our fullback combo is the best in the world.

But that does not mean that Arsenal’s defense is foolproof. They were really rather weak today, particularly in the first half. Hector Bellerin was getting outdone by Jefferson Montero. Nacho Monreal kept losing possession. Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker successfully gave Gomis a golden ticket to a free run on goal.
Things were not pretty.
Despite this defense looking indestructible nearly all season, they looked exposed today. I will stay away from why I think that is (Gabriel Paulista) but let us just say the best personnel were not in the game (Gabriel Paulista).
Whatever the case, the defense has to be shored up. Letting Gomis in on goal and giving the Swans as much space as they had is inexcusable.
Next up, we build off of this rather negative lesson and turn it into a positive one.
