Carl Jenkinson and Kieran Gibbs

Ideally, yea, I would love to see Kieran Gibbs back out there. He didn’t have much to do against PSG, but to be fair, Iwobi was a feeble flank-mate so it wasn’t surprising to see an isolated Gibbs unable to create much. He still did fairly well on the defensive end and made a goal line save that would have put us all in a rather sour mood.

Without Hector Bellerin, as mentioned on the opening slide, we have to find that speed and creativity from the back that is missing and Gibbs is the only real candidate to provide it. His has plus speed and, as a former striker, knows how to create and score goals.

Carl Jenkinson is still showing positive defensive signs, but he was always going to be up against it in terms of filling in for the offensive abilities that Bellerin boasts. The Spaniard is a maniac on that right hand side, whereas Jenko is more controlled in possession.

Both have their upside, but on a team that desperately needs more offensive push, Jenko just doesn’t have it. Still though, his positive signs are incredibly welcome.
