The main priority this summer for Arsenal is locking in Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean superstar has become a sensation in North London, heightening his star power even more since his move from Barcelona. But with the Gunners out of the Champions League and eyeing an uphill battle next season, as they always do, it was never going to be an easy process.

Arsene Wenger has stated that he believes that both Alexis and Mesut Ozil will lock into new deals, going so far as to say that they would absolutely be here in 2017/18. He has said this kind of thing before, however.

Still, Alexis is linked more to a move away than he is to a new contract which, while not wholly incriminating, isn’t the best sign in the world.

But it may just be a matter of getting what he is looking for. I have to believe that, given that he is willing to negotiate, that he wants to stay. He just has certain criteria to be met before he can fully commit himself.

Which got me to thinking about what he might be waiting for and honestly, there are only three things that might be on his list. So let’s talk about those three things.

3. Next year

This is the worst of the bunch to think about, but it’s where we are. Alexis wants to be with a team that is competing for the highest honors against the best teams out there. If Arsenal cannot give him that, he will leave.

As of right now, Alexis does not know where Arsenal will fare come next year, so it’s possible he is willing to wait it out well into the following season until he decides if the club has the required ammunition to mount a serious offensive at major trophies.

This scenario will make the summer long and torturous, but on the bright side, at least that means we have on more chance to impress him. How’s that for optimism?

Let’s talk No. 2.
