Arsenal are relentlessly pursuing Kylian Mbappe despite recent issues. If they were able to sign him, here are three current players he would bring to life.
Arsenal are still trying to sign Kylian Mbappe. After an £87 million offer was rejected earlier in the window, compounded by the growing interest from Real Madrid, it was thought that the chance to sign Europe’s hottest property had passed by. However, Arsene Wenger is unwilling to give up, and has reportedly phoned Mbappe to discuss his plans and whether Arsenal feature in them.
If a deal was indeed completed, Mbappe would offer the Gunners something different to what they have seen in many years. So here are three players who he would bring to life if he did indeed make the sensational switch.
3. Granit Xhaka
Granit Xhaka certainly has his vices. He lacks the short-area quickness to deal with quick, sweeping, passing moves of opposition teams, he is rash and overly-aggressive in the tackle, suffering from discipline and positional issues as a result, and is often too slow in his distribution, allowing the opposition to organise themselves, retain their shape and ensure that they are difficult to break down.
However, there is one aspect of his game that is truly phenomenal: his long range passing. More than the sheer technical skill in executing such difficult passes – that is not something to be underrated or overlooked -, Xhaka also boasts the vision and the intelligence to see the right pass, choosing not to at the right time also.
Mbappe is a player who will relentlessly make runs off of the shoulder, into the channels in behind the opposing defence. Xhaka is the perfect distributor from deep-lying positions to pick out Mbappe when making those runs. The result would be an opposition defence that is scared to push up and more space for the Arsenal midfield to dictate play.
