Arsenal Vs Watford: 5 things we learned – Bernd Leno, here’s your chance
4. Lacazette finishing lets team down
Alexandre Lacazette is a very good finisher. He has consistently outperformed his expected-goals, a figure that details how many goals he would have been expected to score given the quantity and quality of his chances to shoot. But he wasn’t a good finisher here.
His best chance came midway through the first half. Nicking the ball away from Craig Cathcart, something that he does do with exceptional frequency, sprinting through on goal and chipping up and over the goalkeeper, but past the far post. It was a poor effort.
It wasn’t his only opportunity. Another header in the second half could have been better directed, and he nearly converted Nacho Monreal’s headed pass across the six-yard box but was just a step too slow to reach the ball. Lacazette didn’t play badly. His hold-up play was still neat and tidy. He helped get his team up the pitch at key moments in the match. But he also missed some crucial chances.
