2. Changing of the goalkeeping guard?

When Arsenal signed Bernd Leno in the summer for £19 million, most expected him to naturally inherit the number one jersey. You don’t sign a goalkeeper for that kind of figure without seeing him as a starter, at least at some point in the near future. But so far this season, Unai Emery has stuck with Petr Cech, not the flashy new toy.

Cech’s performances with his hands have been exemplary. He has commanded his penalty area well, made a series of excellent saves, especially last weekend against Everton to keep the Gunners’ first clean sheet of the season, and has done little to suggest that Emery should make the switch.

But then he pulled a hamstring just before half-time against Watford. And Leno was subsequently introduced. With Leno the presumed successor and his greater comfort with his feet, could this be a changing of the goalkeeping guard? It remains to be seen how long Cech will be on the sidelines for. But this is the chance that Leno has been waiting for. He must take it.
