Arsenal Vs Burnley: 5 things we learned – End on a high
4. Did you ever doubt Aubameyang?
As soon as Jack Cork’s pass slid past Ben Mee and straight into the welcome arms of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, it was obvious what was going to happen: one touch to run clear of the Burnley defence, which was deceptively excellent, and then a shot past the goalkeeper for the opening goal of the game.
Oftentimes, finishing chances is a whole lot harder when you have the time to think about what you are going to do. There is the opportunity to panic, to squander the chance because of the expectation to convert. But never did that even enter the mind of Aubameyang. It was plain for all to see, and he finished with consummate professionalism.
This has been the story of the season for the Gunners, the two centre-forwards scoring chances at a remarkable rate that it makes up for deficiencies elsewhere in the team. Arsenal did not play very well here, but Aubameyang scored twice. They won the game and he won the Golden Boot as a result.
