12. Matteo Guendouzi

What a signing Matteo Guendouzi was. When you say “Ligue 2 teenager,” you certainly thing Arsene Wenger, but Unai Emery and the transfer brain trust at the Emirates dug this one out and it wasn’t anything like the Yaya Sanogo’s or Jeff Reine-Adelaide signings of transfer windows past.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

This was a dynamite signing that impacted the club from the first match of the season, when Guendouzi showed us immediately what kind of player he was, and he wasn’t just a prospect. He was a ready-now talent with all kinds of upside.

Over the course of the year, we saw him develop from an energetic, often frantic midfielder, to a determined presence with superb passing capabilities and enough enthusiasm to still occasionally make him look frantic, but being so young, there is nothing but positive things to say about this dynamic player.

Even with the dips in form that are attributed solely to his acclimation to a much higher standard of play, this season still has to be chocked up as a massive success for him. More, please!
