Fullbacks

Suddenly I’m not as excited to talk about our midweek fullbacks, since Kieran Tierney took the switch and went into the senior team, where he’s belonged for some time. Which means that now, Unai Emery has split his best fullback pair into two different settings.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

One, Tierney, is in the first team, where is is paired with Calum Chambers, who should be starting at centerback.

The other, Hector Bellerin, will not be starting opposite Sead Kolasinac, who should be paired with Ainsley Maitland-Niles in midweek fixtures. It’s all quite a mess, but on the bright side, there is still a lot of talent here, and Bellerin and Kolasinac should both be quite familiar with the attacking threats that the Reds boast, and they will be well guarded against them.

Again, whether that is enough to wholly stop them… I doubt it. But the ability is there. All we need to do is maximize that ability and we can put up at least the semblance of a counter-effort. Not so hard, right?

Centerback pairing is next.
