2, For: He’s already partly acclimated

Getting used to a new league, especially the Premier League, is such a tough thing to do. Just ask Nicolas Pepe. Hell, just ask Granit Xhaka too. It’s often a long, arduous process that even the grittiest players struggle with (Lucas Torreira). Coming from La Liga makes it even tougher, as the styles of play don’t always jive that well.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Ceballos already has 1200 minutes under his belt and when the season finally resumes and proceeds to its conclusion, he will likely have at least 1500 minutes. That’s 1500 minutes of acclimation time that will reset at zero if we instead choose someone new. Anyone new. We may love what we see in Thomas Partey, but he’ll have to get used to the Premier League too. Maybe it won’t take him as long, maybe it will. It’s all a wildcard.

Despite not knowing how reliable Ceballos can be, at least we know he has acclimatized to the pace and pressure of the Premier League and is in the process of mastering it. He’s got a head start on anyone else we might sign, which is a big leg up on the competition.

Next up, reason No. 1 against.
