Arsenal will be looking to bounce back straight away from their 4-0 humbling away at Anfield as they host Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday. Here is the match preview.

Is Liverpool out of the system yet? While some supporters may still be stomaching the defeat, Mikel Arteta and his team have other more pressing matters on their mind at the Emirates Stadium.

Since being battered by Manchester City, the Gunners had not tasted defeat until last time out so how they respond to this bump in the road is perhaps more important than how they performed on Merseyside.

The fixture they’ve been dished up to react to that setback is the only team left in the Premier League without a win this season, at home. If there is a more inviting game available for Arsenal to banish their Anfield demons then it isn’t making itself known.

Newcastle are in a rut and staring, from a distance, down the barrel of a (hilarious) relegation to the Championship having completed their highly controversial takeover to become the club with the richest owners in world football by a mile.

Of course, we’re only 12 games in and despite not picking up three points this season the Magpies are also only five points from safety, so it’s too early to jump to conclusions. They’ve also gone and got themselves a new manager in the dugout, although Eddie Howe tested positive for COVID-19 prior to what would have been his first game as he had to watch from home as his new side drew 3-3 with Brentford.

Due to rules on isolation, he will not be available for the weekend either, with his assistant Jason Tindall set to take dugout duties once again.

While Newcastle’s season won’t be defined by results away at Arsenal, their position in the league table and desperation for points also offers that niggling doubt that a team playing without fear could spring an upset.

It certainly would be a turn up for the books, although it’s not like they can’t score goals. Indeed, they’ve found the back of the net more times than Arsenal this season. How bad is that?

Well, what better chance to reset the course than Saturday? Should be a cracking game.

Arsenal Team News vs Newcastle – Selections Aplenty for Arteta

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Thursday morning the manager offered a huge update on Granit Xhaka’s knee injury, revealing that the midfielder is ahead of schedule and may possibly return before the turn of the year.

"“Hopefully he will be back a little bit sooner than expected”, the Spaniard said. “He’s in a good place, we’ll have to see. “I hope so [that we will see him this year].”"

Graninevitable. He was always going to be back early, wasn’t he? The man is made of literal granite.

Following the previous weekend’s excursions there might have been a few more injuries and niggles to contend with, but Arteta revealed that there were no fresh concerns for Saturday as the squad is, as it’s been for most of the season, fit and firing once more.

The only other injury absence is Sead Kolasinac, who is walking in a cast and looks like being out for some time, which could be a setback on plans to move him on in the January window. Unless his contract is cancelled, which it probably will be.

As for the visitors, Fabian Schar had to be taken off with a hamstring problem in the draw against Brentford which will likely see Emil Krafth drafted into the defence, with the only other certain absentee being Paul Dummett.

Arsenal Predicted Lineup to Face Newcastle – Odegaard Back in?

Arsenal: Ramsdale; Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney; Partey, Sambi, Saka, Odegaard, Smith Rowe; Aubameyang

Newcastle: Dubravka; Krafth, Lascelles, Clark; Murphy, Willock, Shelvey, Ritchie; Joelinton, Wilson, Saint-Maximin

Arsenal vs Newcastle Score Prediction

The Newcastle side heading to the Emirates will be unlike any seen in these parts for many years. Usually pragmatic and resilient – to a certain degree – Howe wants his teams to take the game to the opposition no matter the gulf in class – and it could make for an entertaining encounter.

One that should, however, play into Arsenal’s hands.

With only one game under his belt and him not even being able to take training between his first and second matches, it is a lot to ask of a side to completely change their style in such a short space of time. He has to start getting the best out of the likes of Joe Willock, while the magician up front in Allan Saint-Maximin is probably quite an easy character to manage: take the ball and make things happen.

Having a pitiful goal difference in the Premier League and scoring fewer goals than their winless opponents, Arsenal need a resounding victory somewhere to lift the spirits.

If 1-0 and 2-0 wins see the team through into Europe come the end of the season then so be it, nobody will complaing, but to start quelling the very real issue of chance creation and goal conversion, a confident and comfortable win by more than the odd goal would sit very well.

With Manchester United and Everton in back-to-back away games coming up, they will need it. Coming up against a Championship level defence, they should get it.

Score Prediction: Arsenal 4-1 Newcastle
