Arsenal’s Costa Rican striker Joel Campbell is set to join Spanish club Real Betis on a season-long loan deal according to ESPN.

Campbell joined Arsenal last summer but didn’t qualify for a British work permit. Despite spending last season on loan at French club FC Lorient, it appears that Campbell still isn’t eligible for a work permit in England.

Arsene Wenger is looking for a club to send him to for a season and Betis appear keen to add Campbell to their squad. The Spanish club had Man City’s Roque Santa Cruz on loan last season, but a deal has yet to be agreed to bring him back on a permanent basis. Signing Campbell may suggest that they aren’t bringing Santa Cruz back, despite his desire to stay at the club.

Campbell was excited at the prospect of playing in Spain next season:

"“It’s a great opportunity for me to grow,” Campbell told Fox TV. “I am going to the world’s best league, and I want to play. I want to show what I am capable of.”"
