A quintet of young internationals have signed new contracts with Arsenal Football Club today. Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere have all committed their futures to the club.

Under Wenger’s leadership, Arsenal have been known as a club that doesn’t have many British players and we have seen a lot of French players come into the squad since his arrival. But with this news, it shows Arsenal are trying to have a British core at the club.

The star of these 5 is undoubtedly Jack Wilshere. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has bags of potential and could well be a star for the club in the future. Carl Jenkinson has improved a lot since last season and I am comfortable with him in the side. Gibbs could be a fantastic player if he avoids injuries. He sort of reminds me of Ashley Cole when he was coming through the ranks at the club. If he can stay fit, he can be a great player. Ramsey is the one I don’t really see much in. Before his injury I felt he could become a good player for the club, but now I am having doubts. Still, he is only 21, so he has lots of time left in his career.

Gibbs is the oldest of the 5 at 23. Ramsey is the next oldest at 21, whilst both Jenkinson and Wilshere are 20 and Oxlade-Chamberlain is the youngest at 19.

Perhaps with these 5 signing new deals, it could persuade another young English player to pen a new deal. *cough* Theo Walcott *cough*.

The future at Arsenal appears to be British.
