Jovetic to Arsenal rumours continue in British media

The Mirror are today reporting that Arsenal are confident that they will sign Fiorentina’s £20m rated Stevan Jovetic this summer. The Montenegro striker has been linked with a move to the Emirates in previous transfer windows, but the rumours have gotten stronger since last summer.

According to The Mirror, the move will depend on whether Arsenal qualify for the Champions League next season or not. His current side Fiorentina look likely to finish in the Europa League places in Italy, so a move to a Champions League club would be considered a move up. Italian champions Juventus are also interested in him according to the report.

Not only would Jovetic command a high transfer fee, his wage demands are rumoured to be around £100,000 a week if he is to move this summer. Arsenal have players such as Sebastien Squillaci and Andrei Arshavin who are out of contract this summer as well as other unwanted players like Denilson, Nicklas Bendtner and Johan Djourou to name a few that are on high wages and Arsenal will hope to sell them this summer. If they can get all or the majority of these players off of their wage bill, they should be able to pay Jovetic his wages if they do try to buy him this summer.

Add to this the money coming in from the new Emirates deal signed earlier in the season and the money that will be coming in from Puma in 2014 and maybe, just maybe, Arsenal could be prepared to make a splash in the transfer market for once.
