To many, Arsenal is home. As the old saying goes "Once a Gunner, always a Gunner." Unfortunately for some players, this saying hits too close to home, as there are examples of players leaving the club, wishing they hadn't.

Here are 7 examples of players who struggled after leaving Arsenal, whether through their own fault, or external conditions out of their control...


1. Alexis Sanchez

I think it's fair to say that I'm getting everybody's example out of the way first, here.

The Chilean Alexis Sanchez had an amazing time with Arsenal. In fact, many would argue he was one of the best players in the world when he represented the Emirates Stadium. Despite arriving from Barcelona, he played his best football in North London.

Then, he signed for Manchester United in a deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Nobody saw it coming, but Mkhitaryan played better for Arsenal than Alexis did for United. Hilariously, the performance Alexis had on the piano was the best performance he had in Manchester.

Alexis Sanchez now plays for Inter Milan, who are having a blast, sitting top of Serie A by some distance. Alexis isn't much more than a rotational player for them, though, only starting 4 league games this season.
