Arsenal suffer Podolski injury blow

Lukas Podolski’s hamstring injury picked up in Tuesday’s Champions League win over Fenerbahce will see him ruled out for 8-10 weeks according to Arsene Wenger.

Originally it was believed that the German international would be out for a few weeks, but Wenger claims that the damage is a lot worse than they first thought.

Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey picked up knocks in the Fenerbahce, but Wenger revealed that those two will be involved in Sunday’s North London Derby against Tottenham.

The injury to Podolski is yet another concern with Arsenal’s squad very thin at the moment. Signings must come in before the transfer deadline passes on 2nd September. The only one that does appear to be coming in at the minute is former Gunner Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer. If the deal does go through, it will taking Arsenal’s summer spending up to a whopping £0. I’m not counting Sanogo’s compensation fee as a transfer fee spent, Arsenal will have signed two players for nothing if the Flamini deal goes through.

It’s frustrating as Arsenal aren’t far off of having a great team. They just need depth. The squad has none of that right now and with Podolski out for a long time now, it really is time to go and spend some money. It will be late as always, but hopefully the players signed between now and the end of the window (if there are any) are worth the wait.
