Arsenal Transfer Update

It’s one day until the World Cup! One day! Obviously club football’s top clubs are still trying to secure transfers so which rumours have been making the most noise in the past few days.

Carlos Vela

It seems that Vela will be on his way back to Arsenal this summer after Wenger confirmed with the Real Sociedad president that they would be activating the clause. This could make sense as one of the best value transfers available on the market, at only £3.2m. Obviously fans will be cautious of this move after the lack of success Vela had during his first time with the North London club, but 21 goals and 13 assists with the La Liga side last year proves he is a different animal than before and he could be the answer to our problems on the wings.

Santi Cazorla

It seems likely that we will be losing at least one midfielder this summer because of the rumoured signings and the midfield imbalance that already existed at Arsenal. Now it looks as though Cazorla will be the midfielder to make way as Athletico Madrid are apparently ready to spend around 22m Euros on the versatile attacking midfielder. The Spanish Champions are aware they may lose some of their best players this summer and are intent on making sure their league success is not a one off. Would Cazorla leave Arsenal? He might if he thinks he won’t get game time at the Emirates, but I think he could be persuaded to stay.

If the amount this rumour has done the rounds in recent weeks is a sign of how likely the transfer is then it must be pretty much done. Wenger has made no secret of his desire to sign a World Class defensive midfielder for his side and Khedira is just that, and with only one year left on his contract it looks like he will be available for about £15m, a very reasonable price considering the quality he would bring.
