Arsenal claim Community Shield Victory

For the first time since 1999 Arsenal claimed a Community Shield victory at Wembley, racing to a 3-0 win over Manchester City in a solid performance that would have soothed a lot of fans’ fears for the new season. The players looked like a solid team and put the oil-rich Manchester City team to shame as the League Champions looked sluggish and out of sorts.

Arsenal eased to Community shield victory over League Champions Manchester City

Having been only 85 days since Arsenal lifted the FA Cup against Hull it seemed fair that Arsenal were the team that knew what walking out onto Wembley for the Community Shield was going to feel like. They started the far brighter side however it was typical early season jitters around the box that held them back, with some passes going astray at the last moment.

It remained a game that was firmly in Arsenal’s control when on the 21st minute Cazorla switched the ball onto his left foot and fired past the City keeper to get Arsenal’s season off to the perfect start, although critics will point to the City keeper’s positioning as quite suspect during the entire match.

Gunner of the Year Aaron Ramsey then added a second before the half time whistle with a smart finish after a wonderful touch in the box, and from here it always looked like Arsenal were going to run away with it. City’s midfield dynamo Yaya Toure looked like he was still sulking from his birthday snub as he was barely involved before he was substituted on the 60th minute.

It was around this time that Giroud produced a moment of inspiration to fire in from 25 yeards with a looping shot over the City keeper to give Arsenal an unassailable 3-0 lead. The game fell silent with both teams wary of picking up injuries before the Premier League campaign gets under way next week.
