Champions League or Bust for Arsenal

It has become a familiar passage for Arsenal fans, however it is extremely important that the players don’t lose focus ahead of tonight’s important game against Besiktas. Losing the draw of Champions League football would be a bitter blow to Arsenal’s hopes of signing a big striker for the season ahead, something that could be vital with the loss of Giroud for at least 3 months.

Losing the draw of Champions League football would be a bitter blow to Arsenal’s hopes of signing a big striker

One of Arsenal’s biggest draws has been that they are constantly involved with Champions League football, almost always progressing beyond the group stage. Financially Arsenal can not afford to compete with the likes of the Manchester clubs or Chelsea’s wage bills, so they must have Champions League football as it is very important for the big players to be involved in the top competitions regularly.

If Arsenal fail to progress into the Champions League they will fall into the Europa League, and this would be nothing but a distraction from the Premier League. The Champions League is good for the fans in the fact it gives people a direct comparison to the other big teams of Europe, and wins against the big European teams really bring momentum to the club. Entering the same European competition as Spurs would do nothing for the players’ confidence or belief in themselves. Spurs will host Cypriot giants Limassol later this week…

  • Besiktas are tricky opponents, but notoriously bad travellers, so Arsenal are heavy favourites for the win. The only problem I can see is that Arsenal did not manage to grab an away goal in Turkey, so if Demba Ba grabs an early goal it could all go very wrong for Arsenal very quickly.

However the main point is that Arsenal have to stay in the Champions League, or they could see their entire season go up in smoke. No UCL = No World Class Striker = No Title challenge. Oh, and yes, Arsenal have to sign an out and out front man because of the loss of Giroud means their already faulty front line is going to lose pretty much all of their goals, so more need to be brought in. Over to you Mr Wenger.
