Lukas Podolski Set to Move on From Arsenal

This should come as no surprise to anyone. When it comes to being out of favor, Lukas Podolski is the poster child. Between his ill-timed “Where’s my Shin-Pad” jest to being completely irrelevant on the pitch, everyone and their sister should have expected that Podolski’s time at the Emirates was limited.

Podolski was brought on in 2012 in a move that excited the masses. His left-foot was renowned far and wide as potentially the best left foot in world football. He was a clinical finisher and put up a respectable 19 goals in his 55 appearances with Arsenal thus far.

But Podolski told RTL television that “if I don’t have this competition every weekend than a change must occur.”

It doesn’t get much more cut-and-dry than that. Rumors were already swirling that he’d exit Arsenal during the summer, but now it’s even more clear. With the signings of Alexis and Danny Welbeck and the potential return of Theo Walcott, the German attacker just doesn’t fit in. He didn’t make a strong case for playing time when he did make it on to the pitch either.

Quite frankly, when he was brought on, I could have sworn he never actually came on the pitch.

Podolski has loads of skill and it’s understandable that he is a bit salty at not being chosen (like, ever). I don’t think any Arsenal fans will have any hard-feelings towards the German either. Arsenal’s new scheme and improved squad just doesn’t have room for him.

At 29 years old, Podolski still has plenty of football to play so hopefully Arsenal can get a good return on him. I do hope that Wenger let’s him go as opposed to continuing to let him ride the bench. There will be plenty of German suitors that would love to welcome Podolski home.
