Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho: The Saga Continues

Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho are going to make more headlines than the Chelsea vs Arsenal match. Early in the first half, Alexis Sanchez was on the unfortunate end of an incredibly dangerous challenge that could have resulted in a serious injury. In response, Arsene Wenger trekked out of his technical area on a mission.

His destination? “Point B” (Alexis)

Jose Mourinho ran a quick slant route and cut Wenger off, however. A few shoves and a brief conversation later and the referee had to call the two together and explain that they were not, in fact, the two parties that fans were here to see (but that’s debatable).

I, for one, was incredibly enthused to see Wenger do this. The commentators were not too keen to agree with me, instead siding with the “Arsene Wenger has overstepped his boundaries” approach, but you will never see Wenger do anything like this again.

This is just the latest (and probably greatest) chapter of the Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho saga. It has never come down to a physical confrontation, and to Wenger’s credit, he looked the alpha-male in the duel (albeit, his team didn’t and that’s all that matters).

Here’s a look at the history of the two:

Mourinho deserved to be shoved for his atrocious choice of shoes alone and I can only hope Wenger mentioned that in passing. Regardless, maybe, just maybe this will light a fire under Wenger and inspire him to never again be handed a loss by the little Portuguese man that runs our dear rivals.

The loss was disappointing, but not overwhelmingly awful and Arsenal are down quite a few players, so there are some positives. International break is coming at just the right time.
