Will Board Back Wenger With Funds In January?

facebooktwitterreddit

It seems silly season in the EPL has already arrive at the Emirates with multiple reports linking Wenger to Hummels, Draxler and everyone else that’s ever played half decent football in the continental leagues. But after big spending in the last two summers will the board continue to give Wenger money to spend?

Will the Arsenal board continue to back Wenger in the wake of his big spending?

Some reports are coming out saying that the board are willing to give Wenger any backing he wants as long as he can justify the cost for the player, whilst others are saying big spending in the recent windows has left the board less willing to fund another venture into the transfer market. For me the truth lies somewhere in between.

Obviously the board’s willingness to spend will depend on the play that Wenger wants, and I do think they have to start stepping in if they think the money is going on a player they have no need for. For example money for a defender would be great, but another attacking midfielder is something we just don’t need.

At the moment most of the reports seem to be linking us with players we could definitely use; defenders, defensive midfielders etc that would add to our squad in quality and in physical strength and therefore actually benefit the team. This would be a wise investment. Being linked with further small, attacking players who would simply add to the players who can’t get a game because there are players in front of them already would be a waste of money.

More from Arsenal Transfer Rumours

I think Wenger will receive a sizeable investment in January because the board has to realise that a lot of the bad that has happened has been injuries, and we need more defensive cover. This does mean more money will need to be spent. Hummels has been by far my favourite rumour and I’m hoping it’s got some basis of truth because quite simply he’s brilliant, but he will cost money.

So at the end of the day I’m pretty sure Wenger will get backing, but I hope it’s not without conditions attached, because sometimes I think Wenger has an issue saying no to a player if he’s talented, even if he’s not what we want.
