Cesc Fabregas has to Regret Leaving Arsenal

When you are called ‘Captain Fantastic’ by your club and supporters, you must hold a pretty special place in their hearts. Cesc Fabregas had that title and as we know and have always known, not only did he have a special place in his supporters’ hearts, but he had a special place in his heart for Arsenal, a place that apparently still has no vacancies.

He told reporters: “The love I have for that club will never change whatever happens and what is the most important is what I have with me are the memories,” and went on to add “I have great memories, love and respect for the club. You will never hear anything bad from me about them,” (via ESPNFC).

Those kind of statements are not often heard from a player who has left the team in his heart behind. You do not hear Gareth Bale talking about his love for Tottenham. Cesc Fabregas has not gotten over his departure from Arsenal and that much is quite clear. Despite now playing for the Champions, Chelsea, Fabregas is still, for lack of a better word, plagued by his love and memories concerning Arsenal.

Cesc Fabregas left Arsenal to pursue his lifelong dream of playing for his boyhood club Barcelona. Despite being brought up and raised at Arsenal, Wenger allowed Fabregas to pursue this end. When it did not work out, Cesc Fabregas looked for a return to the Premier League.

That is when the story gets fuzzy. Whether Cesc Fabregas’ first choice was Chelsea or Arsene Wenger said no to Fabregas, who then went to Chelsea, we do not really know, but if Cesc Fabregas is as genuine in his statements as he appears to be, Chelsea could not have been his first choice.

Being a sharp individual, Fabregas had to know what joining Chelsea would do to his credibility at Arsenal. It would destroy it, and it largely has. However, knowing that Cesc Fabregas still has this unbounded love for Arsenal drives the conclusion home that he really does regret leaving the club. Despite winning a title and all that fun stuff, Arsenal was still his club and as wonderful as trophies are, trophies with the team that raised you are that much more wonderful.

Fabregas could have been a central piece of an Arsenal squad that was growing out of debt. Instead, we now have the pass master himself, Mesut Ozil. We are not exactly missing Cesc Fabregas as a player so much as we were missing how much he was invested in the club. But that ship has sailed. He can say all he wants, he still suits up in the Blue that makes a little vomit come up in the throats of most Arsenal supporters.
