Chile lost to Uruguay in the World Cup qualifying match 3-0, lending credence to Uruguayan paper Oviacon‘s claim that Alexis Sanchez is tired. Oviacon is not the first to make the claim, however. There is a lot of debate raging over whether or not Alexis Sanchez is tired. A lot. Some are even saying that Arsene Wenger will give the Chilean a mid-season rest so as to preserve his form.

But as we know, benching Alexis Sanchez is like clipping a rabid hyena’s toenails. It is no easy feat. That rabid hyena wants to feast. Arsene Wenger has admitted that he has trouble benching Alexis Sanchez because of what he does for the team. It does not help with how insistent the Chilean is that he is perpetually fit.

Matters are not helped when Chilean coach Jorge Sampaoli relies just as heavily on his star man. When nagging calf injuries come knocking, Sampaoli laughs them away.

Alexis Sanchez is needed wherever he goes. His energy levels are always on full. At least according to him and his Instagram. Take a look:

Nothing quite like rubbing the sleep out of your naysayers eyes.

This is such a fine line. Alexis Sanchez is never, never going to admit that he needs a rest. He is never going to ask for a breather or a break to rest an injury. In his mind, he is always ready. That puts managers in a bind. Do they trust their instinct? Or do they give into the persistence and dominance of Alexis Sanchez?

Alexis had a stellar record, putting up seven goals and an assist in four matches. But since that time he has put up zero goals and an assist in his last six. How can it not be exhaustion? Everyone gets tired. At least everyone that is mortal. As far as we know, Alexis Sanchez is mortal.

But will Wenger be able to do it? History suggests he won’t. And after a very serious Instagram post confirming that he never tires, Alexis Sanchez is going to be more persistent than ever that if there are 90+ minutes of football to be played, he will be a part of them.
